How can I tell what drugs are covered under CDIPC regime or my insurance plan?

CDIPC does not define what drugs are covered under your extended health insurance plan.   Drug coverage is usually defined by your employer.   Please contact your employer or insurance company to determine if a specific drug is covered or not.

Does CDIPC limit what drugs are covered by my insurance plan?

No, CDIPC does not determine what drugs are covered or not.   Please contact your employer or insurance company to determine specific coverage and coverage levels.

How do I know if CDIPC is used to share repeating high cost drug expenses on my plan?

Your employer can speak with their broker or group insurance representative to ask this question.

Are all insurance programs offering drug coverage using the CDIPC cost sharing approach for high cost drugs?

No. CDIPC was implemented by member insurance companies to share repeating high drug cost prescription expenses on plans which are defined in insurance terms as “fully insured”. These are plans where the insurance company fully underwrites or insures the risk of the insurance coverage. Generally these plans exist with smaller and some mid-size Canadian employers.

I’m in Quebec and I understand there is a Quebec Drug Insurance Pooling Corporation (QDIPC) that does similar things as enabled through Quebec legislation. How does CDIPC effect my drug insurance here?

Behind the scenes CDIPC integrates with QDIPC.  There is no visible impact to employees of this integration.
